heaven – both subject and filming

Spike Jones

‘Heaven’ was used in the acclaimed skate film Fully Flared directed by Spike Jonze and Ty Evans. The collaboration inspired the directors to take footage and re-edit a sequence of shots that shows the Lakai skateboarding team demonstrating their considerable skills as they navigate through and around various exploding obstacles. With ‘Heaven’ as the musical backdrop, the resulting marriage of sound to picture is quite extraordinary.

Os Gemeos

Os Gêmeos (Portuguese for The Twins) are identical twin brothers (born 1974) from São Paulo, Brazil, whose real names are Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo. They started painting graffiti in 1987 and have helping to define Brazil’s style. Their work often features yellow-skinned characters – taken from the yellow tinge both of the twins have in their dreams – but is otherwise diverse and ranges from tags to complicated murals. Subjects range from family portraits to commentary on São Paulo’s social and political circumstances, as well as Brazilian folklore. Their graffiti style was influenced by both traditional hip hop style and the Brazilian pixação movement.
Their new work has landed in Manhattan which is as wonderful as the rest.

Dude from Napoleon Dynamite

Bill Owen photographs set the standard for capturing the classic american suburbs. Just beyond the rows upon rows of perfect houses, large haired wives, husbands in bowling leagues and young children playing make believe were lots of people with lots of stories to tell.

The “then and now” comparisons which arose from the decades to follow only serve to make these little time capsules all the more wonderful. Check out some more here – http://www.billowens.com
